From 2025, an extended producer responsibility for all packaging will be introduced in Denmark. This means that all companies that import or use packaging will be responsible for handling their packaging waste – including collection, sorting, and treatment. Companies that place packaging on the Danish market will therefore be responsible for the packaging throughout its entire life cycle – even after the packaging is empty and sorted as waste by the consumer.
The purpose of introducing producer responsibility is to reduce the amount of packaging, ensure efficient collection and handling of packaging waste, and motivate companies to better and more environmentally friendly packaging design – for prevention, reuse, and recycling.
