Pack copies marked with “Varefakta” are products declared with Varefakta’s logo and “Controlled by Varefakta” and declared in accordance with Varefakta requirements.

The purpose of this service is to ensure that the product in question can be marketed and sold in accordance with applicable national law as well as EU law.

Before Varefakta commences this task, the customer must complete Varefakta´s specification form. Password is available by contacting Varefakta.

The specification form as well as the other required documentation that appears in the form is sent by the customer to Varefakta at the customer’s own expense. Varefakta must approve the proof before the packaging is printed.

The purpose of Varefakta is to ensure that consumers receive correct, credible, and controlled information on the goods when they shop. Therefore, random control is mandatory for items with Varefakta-logo.

Approval of bicycle locks

Varefakta can help you through the process when you need to have your bike lock approved. Approved bicycle locks are required by most insurance companies for them to pay compensation if the bicycle is stolen.

The process of getting a bicycle lock approved begins with an initial phase which includes an inspection by a lock-skilled committee. The lock-expert committee prepares a test program for the bicycle lock if it is assessed to meet the basic requirements. The bicycle lock then proceeds in the process to the test phase.

Once the bicycle lock has passed the test, the lock goes into the approval phase, which includes approval of the lock certificate and packaging. When the lock is finally approved, it is added to the list of approved locks on Varefakta’s website.

Random control of bicycle locks

Random control is a core service in Varefakta’s concept. The purpose of the inspection is to show whether the minimum requirements for the product have been met and whether there is consistency between the information in the declaration and the product.

Varefakta may once a year at its own laboratory, external laboratories, or at testing institutes of Varefakta’s own choice carry out random sampling of products marked with Varefakta, to ensure that the product is consistently in accordance with the product’s declaration.

Random control includes:

Accredited analyses to verify declared nutritional values. The values are verified in accordance with the EU’s set, permitted tolerances.
Accredited control of net weight and possibly number in the package.
Check that the packaging information corresponds with the most recent pack copy, e.g. after an update.
Varefakta handles dialogue with the manufacturer/supplier when discrepancies are found, and obtains documentation on correction for deviations if this is relevant.
The customer is informed if in connection with the random check a basis has been found that updates are necessary.

Products with Varefakta labelling often have a set of criteria that go beyond legislation – which we call requirements. Varefakta requirements are thus stricter than legislation. Varefakta Requirements are all structured in the same way to make them as easy-to-read and user-friendly as possible.

Varefakta has updated our regulations for bicycle locks so that it also contains electronic bicycle locks.

The regulation has been prepared in collaboration with the Danish Cyclists’ Association, FORCE Technology, Forsikring & Pension, and the Police and contains a number of extra safety and functional requirements, in addition to the legislation, for electronic bicycle locks defined by Varefakta.

In Varefakta’s requirements for bicycle locks, we state, among other things the following requirements for electronic bicycle locks:

Resistance to electrical and magnetic opening tests as well as resistance to heat.
Digital security, so that electronic locks must be resistant to “brute force” attacks, “spoofing” and “hacking”.
Requirements for the electronic key e.g. limited sharing of active keys on smartphones.
