We check that labeling and product still match
When your non-food product carries the Varefakta label, you’ve committed. As part of the scheme, we carry out a mandatory spot check approximately every 18 months.
We select products based on a risk assessment and perform the analyses either in our own lab or through accredited external partners. On average, we test around 20% of a customer’s products.
The goal is simple: To ensure that contents, labeling, and quality still meet the requirements – and live up to what you promise your customers. Spot checks strengthen your market position and increase consumer trust – while giving you the chance to catch and correct any errors in time.
What do we check?
Depending on the product, we may check:
- Number of units in the package
- Net weight or volume
- Break resistance, burn time, or soot levels
- Absorption (e.g. in sanitary pads)
- Water vapor permeability (e.g. in freezer bags)
- Whether the label information matches the latest declaration
For selected high-risk product categories – such as pacifiers, baby bottles, and tampons – we carry out full annual spot checks.
If we find discrepancies, we handle the dialogue with the manufacturer and ensure that documentation is in place for any necessary corrections. And of course, we inform you if the product needs to be updated.
How it works in practice
We purchase the product ourselves in regular retail stores – ideally three units with different batch numbers. If that’s not possible, we adjust the setup to ensure the test still gives a reliable result.
